The problem of the supply of counterfeit and falsified medicines continues to be perceived as a major international problem. Across the globe, police forces working in annual coordinated Interpol operations have attempted to disrupt the supply of counterfeit and falsified medicines. The latest of these operations, Pangea VIII, led to the seizure of $81 million worth of goods in operations across 115 nations, and 2,414 websites being taken offline. In the UK, over £15.8 million worth of goods and medicines were seized by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Although the scale of the  counterfeit and falsified medicines problem is unknown, the latest seizures were reported by the BBC as representing a record haul for the MHRA.
