The Student Switch Off is a not-for-profit campaign that encourages students to save energy when living in University of Halls of Residence.

This year all LSE Halls have been competing against each other to reduce their energy use by making small changes such as only boiling the amount of water needed, putting on a jumper instead of the heating, and switching off unnecessary lights.

We can now reveal the winner of this year’s Student Switch Off competition is… Northumberland House! Huge congratulations are deserved by all the students and staff who have helped make this happen!

Northumberland House will be rewarded with £250 to spend on something to improve student life (we’ve heard rumours that it might be spent on a new film projector for the common room) and a delivery of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for residents to enjoy!

Overall across the halls we have saved 16% of the energy usage compared with previous years, which is a great achievement and an increase on last year’s savings.

Well done to everyone who’s made any energy-saving action over the past year.  It all adds up!

Full results for all halls can be seen below.
