“Chow Down” is an initiative to invite LSE Governors and staff in Student Support roles to visit our catered Halls of Residence to share an evening meal with residents. This gives LSE Governors and Student Support staff an opportunity to meet with LSE students and get a sense of what life is like for LSE students in halls. Passfield, Rosebery, Bankside and Carr-Saunders have all hosted “Chow Down” events and entertained many guests over dinner. Attendees have been impressed with the strong sense of community and connection within the hall and enjoyed the opportunity to experience good food allowing them to meet students in a relaxed setting. “Chow Downs” have taken place at Rosebery Hall, Passfield Hall and Bankside House this term with further events planned for Lent Term.
Thanksgiving was also celebrated at Bankside House last week. Feedback from residents was positive with many commenting on the welcoming atmosphere and community feel in the restaurant.
” The introduction of inclusive meals has transformed the atmosphere at Bankside. The restaurant is a hive of activity in the evening, with residents meeting to eat, chat and relax. It has also made a real difference during Orientation week, when residents are still finding their feet and making friends, drawing residents together around a shared social occasion and fostering a real sense of community. The “Chow Down” dinner was a great success and a positive all round experience for the three Governors and the students who attended.” Debra Ogden, Warden, Bankside House
“The restaurant staff made a great effort this year for both Thanksgiving and Christmas with themed menus and festive decorations which really contributed to a sense of community at Bankside.” Mary
“The restaurant staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, even serving a US Thanksgiving dinner. It was delicious and it helped stem my homesickness.” Teresa
“I can’t imagine Bankside House without the restaurant. Its atmosphere is so welcoming and lively, and it serves as a great place for everyone to get together, catch up, and enjoy a good meal.” Mira
“I just wanted to thank you so much for a really lovely evening, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved meeting you all and hearing about life in Rosebery Hall. I was so impressed with what I saw and particularly loved the jolly, busy atmosphere. You clearly have a great group of students running the Students Committee, which I think they are really beginning to enjoy.
Thank you for dinner and thank you all for your warm hospitality. It’s visits like these that make me so proud to be a Governor of LSE.” Angela Camber, LSE Governer
Well done and thanks to all the staff involved in making these events a continued success.
