We have been alerted to a number of job scams targeting students. Please always be vigilant when looking for jobs online and if you receive an email regarding a job opportunity, even if it comes from an LSE account, please proceed cautiously. Job opportunities which LSE Careers send on behalf of organisations will always be sent from careers@lse.ac.uk and you will be able to find the opportunity on CareerHub – if in doubt always contact LSE Careers at careers@lse.ac.uk to check.
We have come up with a list – this is not exhaustive- of things you should look out for when deciding if you will pursue the opportunity:
- if the opportunity sounds to good to be true for example pay/ working hours/ benefits then it probably is
- the email is from or asking you to respond to a gmail or Hotmail account
- you are asked to download software
- you are asked for money to apply or asked for your bank details/personal information
- inconsistancy in format and grammar
- you are struggling to find information online about the organisation or role by searching for the company via a search engine
It is always better to be cautious so if you are in doubt please contact us and we will advise you on whether or not this opportunity is being advertised through us on CareerHub.
