Plan your career with Career Builder

It can be difficult to find the time to think about your future job options/getting work experience when you’re concentrating on your studies. LSE Careers has created a tool that can help you do this from the comfort of your own room.

Career Builder is an interactive guide to help you navigate the career planning process and find the most appropriate information and resources whatever stage you’re at in the job/internship hunting process.

career builder screenshotIt’s split into four sections: the first ‘Self assessment’ is designed to help you recognise your skills and values; the second ‘Career research’ helps you to conduct career research by understanding the kinds of careers that are available; the third ‘Making a decision’ is designed to help you discover what options are the best for you; and the last section ‘Taking action’ helps you through the application and interview process.

If you have no idea what you want to do you can start at the beginning and work through your strengths and values and understand how these can then help you to decide upon a future job. Alternatively, if you know what you want to do Career Builder will provide practical help on how to make this happen, such as suggesting you attend a particular event or workshop right here on campus. Because it’s designed to connect you to the best events and resources suited to your particular requirements…so it should save you precious time!

Career Builder is a fantastic starting point for students who have very little time to think about their career, it may also suit those who want to spend time reviewing their options individually before meeting with a careers consultant. You can also save and print your results at any stage which is useful if you wish to come in and meet with a careers consultant to discuss the results in person.

To get the most from the Career Builder, use it in conjunction with other LSE Careers services and resources. If you’re not in London you can book a telephone or Skype appointment as well – contact us if you can’t make it onto campus.

Good luck!
