Zephyr

The LSE Library has over 95 online and terminal based subscriptions, many of which can be useful for your careers research. Our series of blogs outlines some of these subscriptions and how you can make use of them to enhance your applications and interview answers. This sixth post focuses on using Zephyr for your careers research.

Zephyr is a comprehensive database of deal information containing data on M&A, IPO, private equity and venture capital deals. Detailed financial information on the companies involved is also included. Content is updated hourly and covers information on rumours as well as announced and completed deals. In addition Zephyr features analysis of the rumours, data verification, and foreign language deals translated into English and customisable league tables across a range of sectors targeted by LSE students.

The top ways Zephyr can help with your careers research

1. M&A reports

As well as outlining specific industry M&A reports, Zephyr allows you to view M&A deals by various locations, including by country, by continent, by region etc. This is particularly useful if you are moving into a market you are not familiar with or need to keep up to date with the movements in your chosen area. Having this overall understanding can help inform your commercial awareness discussions when involved in an interview, and will demonstrate how driven you genuinely are to enter this new market given the extra research you have conducted.

2. M&A deals

Updated hourly, you can review M&A deals, setting up alerts to let you know when a new M&A report is available. Most notably it tells you who the deal adviser is, which could be especially useful for those of you wanting to become more informed about a deal you might have read about online, especially if your intended law firm is that adviser.

3. News

Using the filter you can review the news for the sector you are applying to. Use this information in your application forms or at interview to prove you have the drive, motivation and commercial awareness for your sector or the specific employer; from banks and insurance companies, to retail and the energy sector, to education, public administration and defence.

For advice on how to effectively and professionally discuss your careers research on your applications or at interview, book a careers appointment via CareerHub.

You can access Zephyr via the Library’s search function. If you use this subscription for your careers research, please email us at careers@lse.ac.uk with any feedback you have.
