MERGENT Intellect
The LSE Library has over 95 online and terminal based subscriptions, many of which can be useful for your careers research. Our series of blogs outlines some of these subscriptions and how you can make use of them to enhance your applications and interview answers. This fourth post focuses on using MERGENT Intellect for your careers research.
Mergent Intellect offers students the chance to access private and public US and international business data, industry news, facts and figures, executive contact information, industry profiles and much more. Whilst US focused, there is the option to include a search for organisations outside the States.
1. View industry reports
On each company profile you can view the most current related industry reports, which give an overview of your sector on a worldwide scale. This is great information to have if you are new to a sector and are trying to convince employers you have a genuine interest in starting your career in that sector; showing enthusiasm and knowledge gained beyond the normal news stories can demonstrate this.
2. Company price plotted against news stories
An element of the company profiles is that the company price is plotted on a line graph against news stories which have included the employer. From a financial perspective, you can see how stories affect the worth of a company. This is useful information to have if you are researching into stories to demonstrate your commercial awareness at interview, and your understanding of market place alongside new stories.
3. List of competitors
Some company profiles include a competitors list, within the company details tab. Add these employers to your list of potential employers to work for to widen your job search scope, whilst also learning about the employers in your sector.
