The Philosophers

SUSAN STEBBING

6.00–7.15pm, Tuesday 12 October

A specialist in the philosophy of language and logic, Susan Stebbing was a pioneer of analytic philosophy. Her work built a bridge between the logic of Aristotle and that of the early twentieth century, because, in her words, ‘the science of logic does not stand still’. But she also made important connections between these technical fields and pressing social issues, writing not only for her fellow experts but the wider public, exposing the logical errors plaguing everything from political rhetoric to science communication. Join us to discuss the wide-ranging work and legacy of this remarkable thinker.
