In the words of Simon and Garfunkel, “when you are weary, feeling small, I will comfort you”. I have been researching a philanthropic project for a Foundation that is considering a very exciting journalism Fellowship scheme with POLIS. It’s a very inspiring idea which I will reveal when the process is more developed. So I am feeling benevolent and want to do you a favour. In my researches I came across this beautiful website by Fran Monks. It is a gallery of wonderful photographic portraits of people who are trying to ‘make a difference’. Try and suspend your normal bitter and twisted cynicism for a moment and take a few minutes this weekend to enjoy the existence of people trying to do good. And they are not the usual pious hand-wringing, patronising, jumble sale charity types either.
