StaffSurvey2015Thank you to everyone who completed the LSE Staff Survey. We have now received the analysis from Aon Hewitt, the consultancy firm that managed the survey for the School. The results for Residences and Catering, and the School can be found here.

Aon Hewitt uses an ‘engagement score’ to give an overall picture of how motivated and positive staff generally feel about the School. The overall engagement score for us is 46% against the UK average benchmark of 50%.

Two areas that we scored in the top quartile for were Line Management (74%), with staff feeling valued and supported by their line manager and Performance Management (70%). Staff feel they have a clear understanding of the goals of the division and how this supports the overall School’s goals. This is an improvement from the 2012 staff survey and a reflection of the work carried out in this area. Managing performance through CDR’s and identifying staff strength and weaknesses however scored 46% and we will need to ensure that further work is carried out to improve this.

Only 37% of our staff feel that they receive appropriate recognition (beyond pay and benefits) for their contributions and accomplishments.  This is disappointing as we all know how hard staff in our division work throughout the year to support our students and commercial guests and this is something we need to address. Similarly there were low scores for career opportunities.

The next step for Residences and Catering is for the management teams to review the report in full and look at comparisons from 2012 staff survey.  This will identify areas of improvement in the last 3 years and those that may require further work.  An action plan will be made available at the beginning of the Summer Term to all staff in the division.

Please do take the time to read the report which was circulated yesterday.  Thank you to everyone for taking the time to complete the survey and to the staff survey co-ordinators for their help in encouraging colleagues to complete it. The feedback received is an important benchmark for how we are doing and I welcome any comments you have.
