LSEUPR Recruitment for Academic Director 2021/22

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Academic Division to pitch and publish content organised along the subfields of political science and politics research more generally.
  • Content in 2020/21 included:
    • Study Guides: Articles summarising each week of a GV module, ideally covering the major subfields of political science (e.g. political theory, political economy, comparative politics, methodology etc.).
    • Research Podcasts: 15—20 min interviews with graduate students, early-career researchers and faculty about their research interests and advice for aspiring academics in political science.
  • Oversee the publishing of content on the UPR blog.
  • Work with the GovSoc podcast team to liaise with the Government Department’s media division to publish and upload the podcasts.
  • Deliver advance publishing schedules to the Marketing Division for publicity materials to be created.
  • Contribute to UPR Executive Committee weekly meetings and the shared responsibilities of the journal.
  • Assist the Editorial Division in reviewing abstracts for the UPR Research Conference.

Skills required

Although skills such as research experience are valued, your interest and commitment to the UPR and our vision of supporting undergraduate research is the most important factor.

Essential:

  • Enthusiasm for the field of political science and politics research.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Willingness to learn new software essential for publishing articles and podcasts.
  • Must be a current LSE undergraduate student from any department. 

Desirable:

  • Past research experience (as an intern, RA etc.) in a social science subject, particularly in political science, economics, international relations, or related fields.
  • Experience with research design and statistics.
  • Particular interests or research experience in one or more subfields of political science (e.g. Political Theory, Comparative Politics).
  • Familiarity with WordPress and Audacity.
