If so, then the Tata Social Internship scheme may be just what you are looking for! What’s the scheme about?
The Tata Social Internship Scheme is a unique partnership between Tata and four leading universities (LSE, the University of Cambridge, UC Berkeley and UC Davis) and is managed and administered by LSE Careers and India Observatory. It offers selected students the opportunity to work on various social entrepreneurship, environmental, development and CSR community based projects. These initiatives are set up by the Tata Group of companies and give students a grass-roots level exposure to India. In turn students bring their international perspectives and research skills to the company projects, and in so doing promote international understanding. What type of projects are available?
The 2018 projects cover a whole range of areas including measuring the impact of various health initiatives, career paths in sport, developing CSR indices and social inclusion and diversity in the workplace. They all involve a significant research element and will give selected candidates some opportunities to ‘work in the field’. The 2018 projects are running from the 25 June until the 25 August 2018. So what are the next steps?
The Tata Social Internship scheme is competitive and interested LSE students will need to apply for the programme. You will need to submit an academic transcript, CV and a covering letter of up to 700 words which you upload to the Tata Social internship portal. Interviews for the scheme take place here in London on the 9 March. Shortlisted applicants will then be matched by the Tata Group to an appropriate project. The scheme is open to all pre-final and final year undergraduates and postgraduate students (including PhDs) at LSE.
- Students can be from any degree background or discipline.
- Previous work or volunteer experience with NGOs/community groups, demonstrated leadership capacity and team working skills, excellent communication and organisational skills and a strong interest in India are all desirable.
- As this is a cultural exchange, preference will be given to students who have not previously spent an extended period of time in India.
