An Exciting Year Ahead for LSE Generate! Here’s a Lookback at Our Launch Party

A warm welcome to all the new and returning students at LSE! Last Friday we here at LSE Generate held our official launch party to celebrate what is sure to be a busy and exciting year. Highlights included an extremely delicious chocolate cake in the shape of our logo and a much loved silent disco! Thanks to Carl Goodwin for his excellent snaps of the night! You can check out the photos below or find Carl here.

We were also lucky enough to have Simon Vans-Colina (@simonvc), the first employee at Monzo Bank come speak to us about their experience in the start-up world. Monzo, which started in February 2015 and has been branded the ‘future of banking’, aims to create a bank for the modern world by using innovative and creative solutions and focusing on transparency for their users. You can read more about their aims here. Simon informed us that Monzo intends to be the first bank with one billion customers, a really exciting goal! With their full banking license now authorised, they are well on their way.

Never too late to learn to code!

One of Simon’s main points was that if you’re interested in learning to code you haven’t missed the boat! Don’t worry, although the deadline for Generate’s coding school this term has already passed, there’s always Lent term. We’ll also be holding an introductory talk on how to create an app 7th November 1-2:30pm, so be sure to look out for that!

What’s Coming Up at LSE Generate:

After the success of the launch party, we’ve already begun our series of masterclasses which take place every Wednesday 3-5pm. The topics covered range from how to create a business plan to all the essentials you need to know about contracts. The next class will be Wednesday 18th October and will be all about how to create successful teams within your start-up.

Generate Breakfast with Iqbal Wahhab

This coming Tuesday we have a really exciting networking event for LSE Students! The owner of the award-winning Roast in Borough Market, Iqbal Wahhab, will be discussing the possibilities food has to make the world a better place. This event is perfect for those interested in food or social entrepreneurship. Although it is fully booked, the waitlist is still open so it’s worth signing up here.

And don’t forget about our Funding Competition!

Applications are now open and the deadline is 16th October. Simply follow this link https://live-ilse.cloud.contensis.com/current-students/careers/generate/funding-competition and then fill out the initial application form. Winners will receive up to £10,000 to start their venture. Even if you don’t get through you will receive feedback on your idea and there will be another chance to enter next term!

We here at LSE Generate are so excited for all our upcoming events this year, and we can’t wait to share them with you!
