Venue:

The evening will provide a platform for informal networking with fellow alumni over drinks and canapés where you can share your experience and knowledge, hear from others within the sector, and build your professional network.

We hope you will be able to join us and look forward to meeting you.

Keynote speaker

Andrew Long, Head of Profession (HOP) at DFID for Social Development

Andrew will talk about working in international development from the perspective of a senior government adviser to the Dept. for International Development. This will be shaped by reference to his own professional journey from PhD student of Anthropology at LSE, through early years accumulating experience, doing consultancy and research, to working with the Namibian Government on conservation policy and poverty reduction, to the last 13 years in government with both DFID and FCO.

His contribution to the discussion will explore early career expertise required for working in international development, notably from a Social Development perspective, but with reference also to the current focus of the UK’s overseas assistance (notably the balance between UK interests and wider commitments to address the Sustainable Development Goals). Finally, he will offer some reflections on the changing landscape of international development, and what this might mean for careers.
