Measuring Business & Human Rights is a research project led by Charline Daelman (KU Leuven), Damiano de Felice (Access to Medicine Foundation) and Irene Pietropaoli (Middlesex University). Ann Sofie Cloots was one of the co-directors of the project until the end of 2014.

charlineCharline Daelman has been a doctoral candidate and teaching assistant at the Leuven Institute for Human Rights and Critical Studies (LIHRICS) since September 2010. Her PhD research focuses on the integration of human rights in foreign direct investment. She obtained a master of law at Ghent University and she holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex, where she was also a researcher at the ‘Peacekeeping Law Reform Project’. Charline is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Pretoria and the Tecnológico de Monterrey. Since December 2013, Charline is the Co-Director of ‘Measuring Business and Human Rights’, a research project officially endorsed by the UN Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations. She is currently a member of the editorial board of the Flemish Journal for Human Rights and of the review board of the Essex Human Rights Law Review. In October 2012, she joined the Brussels office of SQ Law as an associate.

Damiano de Felice_photo (200x200)Damiano de Felice is Deputy Director for Strategy at the Access to Medicine Foundation, an international not-for-profit organisation dedicated to encourage the pharmaceutical industry to play a greater role in facilitating access to basic medicines in the developing world. Damiano holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he focused on the relationship between business activities, human rights and sustainable development. He presented the findings of his research at the United Nations Human Rights Council, delivered a TEDx talk on the corporate responsibility to respect human rights, advised one of the largest European banks on the adoption of its first human rights policy, and was contracted by the Italian government to conduct the baseline study in view of the Italian National Action Plan on business and human rights. Damiano is Board Member of the European Society of International Law Interest Group in business and human rights and member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Human Rights.

Irene fotoIrene Pietrapaoli is an independent consultant on business and human rights based in Yangon, Myanmar. She is currently working as a consultant for Amnesty International’s business and human rights team. Her work focuses of the human rights of extractive projects in Myanmar in general, and on the Letpadaung copper mine in particular. Irene is a doctoral candidate at the school of law of Middlesex University, London. Her research is on corporate legal accountability for human rights abuses in transitional justice contexts. Irene previously worked as a Researcher at the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre, both in London and in Myanmar. She completed an LLM in International Human Rights Law at the National University of Ireland and has a J.D. from the University La Sapienza of Rome and the University of Barcelona. She has previously worked for NGOs and international organizations in Europe, Latin America, South and South East Asia, including at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and at ECPAT International, Bangkok. She has published a number of papers in international human rights law journals and writes occasionally for The Guardian.
